Welcome

The Human Resources Organization is committed to supporting the Department of Justice mission in four ways:

  1. Providing Department-wide leadership in human resources policy areas such as: personnel staffing, position classification, pay and leave, performance management, labor and employee relations, employee assistance, worklife, and employee development;
  2. Managing Department-wide personnel operations such as: the voluntary leave bank, the drug-free workplace program, events management, personnel automation, training, and executive resources;
  3. Serving as the servicing personnel office for the offices, boards, and Justice Management Division (JMD), and the servicing payroll office for the offices, boards, and divisions; and
  4. Communicating human resources information to Department employees in various ways.

The Human Resources Organization seeks new professional staff members who share this commitment and appreciate the value that effective human resources management contributes to mission accomplishment.

Human Resources Mission

The Department of Justice Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Human Resources and Administration (DAAG/HRA) serves as the Department’s Chief Human Capital Officer, and in that capacity is responsible for ensuring that the Department has a strategic approach for attracting, maintaining, and developing the human capital needed to carry out the mission of the Department of Justice.

The Human Resources mission includes:

  • Setting the workforce development strategy for DOJ.
  • Assessing workforce characteristics and future needs based on the DOJ mission and strategic plan.
  • Aligning DOJ's HR policies and programs with the organization's mission, strategic goals and performance outcomes.
  • Developing and advocating a culture of continuous learning to attract and retain employees with superior abilities.
  • Identifying best practices and benchmarking studies.
  • Applying methods for measuring intellectual capital and identifying links of that capital to organizational performance and growth.

About DOJ's Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Human Resources and Administration (DAAG/HRA)

Human Resources Administration (HRA)

The mission of the DOJ Human Resources Administration staff is to develop Departmental policy for human resources and equal opportunity employment; and provide guidance, policy, oversight, operational support, and strategic management of DOJ human capital management issues.

Library Staff

The mission of the Library staff is to support the reference and research needs of Departmental employees.

The Executive Secretariat

The mission of the Executive Secretariat is to oversee all written communications addressed to and emanating from the Offices of the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, Associate Attorney General, and Congress.

Consolidated Executive Office (CEO)

The mission of the Consolidated Executive Office is to provide administrative support to the Department’s leadership offices, senior management offices, and selected JMD staffs.

Human Resources Management

The human resources management mission is to provide Departmental guidance, policy, oversight, operational support, and strategic management of DOJ human capital management issues in the areas of employment, pay, position classification, leave, worklife issues, awards and recognition, performance management, employee assistance programs, benefits, and employee development and training for Department staff.
